Our History

Sonia Scott, Founder of Dorson Home Care

Dorson Community Foundation is the non-profit, community outreach division of the Dorson family of services. The Dorson family of companies include: Dorson Home Care, Dorson Community Foundation, Dorson Vocational Training Institute, and Dorson Baby Care. Below is a brief history of the Dorson brand.

Dorson Home Care was founded by Sonia Scott in 1988. Providing families with compassionate, personalized care has always been at the core of Scott’s mission. As a result, the Dorson brand has become synonymous with providing home health care services and educational training that both families and communities can trust.

Since our inception, Dorson Home Care has been providing home health care services for residents throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic and Somerset counties in New Jersey.

Following the success of Dorson Home Care, Scott also wanted to give back to the community. In 1992 she formed the Dorson Community Foundation. This non-profit organization has grown to become a vital resource within the greater Essex County area. Our programs provide support, education, and assistance to inner city youth and teens; and include key offerings such as Saturday Business and Computer classes, SAT prep courses, and professional dance classes for both children and adults

In 2004, Scott and the Dorson brand saw a need to provide education and home health care training that emphasized both skill and compassion. This resulted in the formation of the Dorson Vocational Training Institute which specializes in highly skilled, compassionate training within the health care industry. Our successful programs include: Certified Home Health Aid, Certified Nursing Assistant, English as a Second Language (ESL), Medical Billing, and other offerings.

Finally, our most recent addition includes Dorson Baby Care which provides mothers and families with in home support and newborn care post childbirth.
